PERFORMANCE ART - WORKSHOP SERIES: BODY > IMAGES > WORDS > BODY: PERFORMATIVE TRANSLATIONS

Exploration of identity, belonging and language
through artistic approaches

Idea: expressing shared experiences artistically

“Bodies > Images > Words > Bodies: Performative Translations” was a series of workshops that invited people to collectively explore questions of identity, belonging,

language and community. Participants were encouraged to explore their own experiences of these issues through artistic and physical expression.

Goal: new perspectives and creative community

The aim of the workshop series was to gain new insights, formulate questions and discover the potential of art and performance to create a dialogical and creative community. By translating their experiences between different forms of expression, they could the participants develop new perspectives on their own topics and experiences.

Realization: Workshop series under artistic direction

Here, translation not only had a meaning in terms of content, but also played a performative role. In other words, the participants were invited to translate their experiences and perceptions between physical, visual and linguistic forms of expression and thus explore them from different perspectives.

Each workshop focused on a specific thematic aspect, such as “The individual and the group” or “Being seen”

Thematic focus of the workshops

  • “The individual and the group”
  • “Be seen”
  • “(Feeling) out of place”
  • “Idioms”
  • “Cultural habits”

Artistic direction: Pedro Henrique Risse

The workshops were led by artist and filmmaker Pedro Henrique Risse.
Through his concept of translation, he created a space for exchange and encounters. The entire series of workshops was part of the annual project “ART IN TRANSLATION” by interaction Leipzig and was funded by the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig.
